Calling all hosts… if you’re stuck for an easy dessert recipe, have a go of this one. It’s from my Mum’s apple crumble recipe – best I’ve ever tasted! And the old imperial measurements seem more appropriate somehow. Apple crumble is simple with delicious results and a little feeling of accomplishment! It will be gobbled up.
4 oz plain or gluten-free flour
2-3 medium cooking apples
2 tablespoons brown or caster sugar
2 tablespoons golden syrup
2-3 oz soft butter
Cream or custard
Put the flour, caster sugar and salt in a bowl and cut in the butter with a knife until the mix becomes like breadcrumbs. Grease the inside of a baking dish with butter and sprinkle with half the ordinary sugar. Slice in the apples and sprinkle them with the rest of the sugar. Add raisins or berries if you like. Shake it down to distribute the sugar, then sprinkle on the ground cinnamon. Top it with a layer of crumble mixture. Serve with pouring cream or custard… : )
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees celsius and cook for 25-30min. A delicious dessert that’s really easy to make and sure to go down a storm!
